Debug Your Leadership: Emotional Intelligence Skills for Software Engineers and Test Professionals

About the Topic

Technical skill alone is no longer enough for career growth. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a crucial differentiator for software engineers and test professionals aiming to lead, influence, and collaborate effectively. This session explores how EI enhances technical performance by reducing conflict, improving communication, and strengthening team cohesion. Drawing from Daniel Goleman’s EI model, participants will examine self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management in real-world engineering scenarios—from debugging crises and stakeholder meetings to architecture reviews and cross-team collaboration. You’ll gain practical tools like the “Rule of Reappraisal” for managing production pressure, active listening techniques for stakeholder alignment, and smart questioning strategies to extract clearer requirements. Whether you're mentoring juniors, leading sprints, or planning your move into leadership, this session offers concrete, actionable skills to help you move from strong contributor to trusted leader—without writing a single line of additional code.

Key Learning Objective

  • Learn how to apply EI techniques to prevent conflict and improve team dynamics.
  • Gain tools for clearer communication, better stakeholder alignment, and smarter requirements gathering.
  • Understand how EI accelerates career growth by enhancing leadership presence and influence.
